Mad about Alice

Stella McCartney necklace and bracelet Clock studs

Cheshire cat ring

Rabbit ring

Drink me pendant

I can't wait for the release of Alice in Wonderland on the 5th of March. I've seen the trailer in 3-D and it's a visual masterpiece! With actors like Anne Hatheway and Johny Depp it's a guaranteed hit I think. Inspired by the Alice-mania there's been quite a lot of cute things produced by the designers, ranging from Alice bands, tea dresses and jewellery. Stella McCartney has designed a charm bracelet and necklace with little rabbits, hats and cards dangling down. The only thing NOT cute about it is the price, it starts at £235. However, Disney Couture has also launched an Alice range which I think is much cuter anyway. I love all things Alice in Wonderland ever since Gwen Stefani's video What you waiting for from baaaaack in the day. Go and check out the trailer on youtube if you haven't seen it yet.

Moschino Cheap & Chic Fall 2010

I want ALL of Moschino's Cheap & Chic collection!! I love it love it love it! The collection is staying true to the brand and producing fun and easy to wear pieces. It's inspired by the opening of the Maison Moschino , the company's first hotel in Milan and each outfit represents the different types of women that one may see emerging from a hotel. There's the dressed-up lady, there's a posh lady with a Hermes Kelly bag on her head, there's a shopaholic etc. My favorite piece is the pink skirt with oversized black bows on the side, it's so Lolita. The shopping bag with the bold "FULL" print is an echo of the last season's shopper that said "Fashion is full of chic". Couldn't have put it better!

Central St. Martin's MA Show

I was soooooo excited to see what the MA Fashion graduates from CSM come up with! I can only imagine what pressure they must all have felt because everyone has a certain expectation from a CSM graduate. Past alumni include Galliano, Stella McCartney, Christopher Kane, Alexander McQueen and Matthew Williamson just to name a few so basically if you graduate from St. Martin's, your career is half-made. The collection had a few interesting and original ideas, but truth must be said, I didn't like some of them. The ready-to-wear Fall 2010 collection included 207 different looks so posting all of them could potentially crash my humble little blog, so I've chosen my favorite designer, Tze Goh.

I have no idea what this designer is all about but i was amazed at the clothes that were shown. There are almost architectural, they don't look like they are made out of textile. How a textile can fall and create such perfect symmetrical creases is beyond me. What i really love is that the "less is more" theory is totally applicable in this case. The colour white is so clean and minimal that it gives the main emphasis on the actual folds, creases and volumes. It makes you look at the actual piece of clothing rather than the "look" it creates.

I think that this designer will be very big and if my prediction comes true, you read it here first!

Armani's costumes

This is just a little something I saw on one of Armani blogs. These are the costumes that Armani designed for Lady Gaga's tour. I love the quality of the actual drawing. So pretty and sexy and I can totally imagine them on Lady Gaga.

Dior's Style

This is "The Little Dictionary Of Fashion" by Christian Dior that I bought the other day and reading it made me realize that some things just never go out of fashion. This little book is so cute and contains illustrations by the author. My favourite quotes are:

"Simplicity, good taste and grooming are the three fundamentals of good dressing and these do not cost money".

"I will only say now that elegance must be the right combination of distinction, naturalness, care and simplicity. Outside this, believe me, there is no elegance. Only pretension".

French Connection Campaign

I was mesmerised by the French Connection S/S 2010 campaign "This is Woman". I just find it so beautiful. This might be because I still haven't recovered from the trauma of my dissertation on feminism which was about how women are always aware of the male gaze a
and do everything to feed male desire (I really need to snap out of it). The photographs are so stunning and are kind of reminiscent of Barbara Kruger's work with their bold graphic statements.. Ahhhh love it!

Best of McQueen

I was browsing through the archives of Alexander McQueen's trying to pick out my favorite pieces to post on the blog but I realized that it would be impossible. Every piece had something really unique and special about it but the thing that they all had in common is the fact that it was created by a very talented and skilled designer. What a tragic loss. I've read that his label will still continue to exist even though the business was not doing very well from a financial point of view. Sadly, his death may be the ultimate marketing move that will make the sales soar. If you think about it, that's the case with all the famous people, just look at Michael Jackson... Karl Lagerfield has said: "Who knows, perhaps after flirting with death too often, death attracts you" which is kind of scary because looking back on all of his collections, there was always some kind of connotation or reference to death involved. Even looking at the skull-printed scarves (yes, the one you probably got from topshop/h&m/zara etc.well, he's the one who thought of it), it becomes obvious. May his soul rest in peace.

Miu Miaw

I'm back! Sorry I haven't posted for such a long time, got very busy with all the uni deadlines etc. Look what I found while browsing the Miu Miu spring/summer collection! I looooove the silk cat print on these shoes but the actual shape of the shoes is a different story. Personally, I wouldn't wear this (ok maybe the second ones because they're mary-janes) and I think Miuccia should have designed a sexier version of these using the same textile. These look like something a hippy kid would wear don't they? And notice the horrible clogs popping out left and right! I even saw them in a Zara window display. Oh no.

Love at first sight

I'm in love with these Viktor & Rolf shoes from the s/s collection. Inspired by lingerie, according to the designers and they look absolutely gorgeous on feet. I'm a size 6 if anyone wants to get me a gift. Ahhhhhhh.....

New LV Rubbish

Yes, the new Raindrop Besace bag is here and yes, it does look like a bin liner. When i first saw it I thought that it's a very big diss from Marc Jacob's side to design something like this under the Louis Vuitton brand. After all, isn't LV synonymous with class and luxury? But then I kind of digested it and thought that it's actually really clever. Maybe I'm just trying to find a "deep meaning" in everything, but I see this as a critique of today's society, the fact that we would spend a grand (yes, that's the price) for something that literally looks like trash. Why? Because it's Louis baby and by getting it we will feel prettier/richer/sexier/better/fashionable the moment we may be none of those. The extent to which LV brand has become commercialised is ridiculous and the obsession to put the monogram pattern on everything has resulted in this anti-fashion. I may be wrong. This is purely my interpretation, but if this was the actual concept behind this, then i take my hat off Mr Jacobs. I'll be enjoying looking out for idiots who will buy this. Oh, and it's waterproof (yay).

Chanel clogs

Alexa Chung is on the cover of this month's Vogue. Can somebody please tell me what the fuss is about? I don't think she's a fashion icon and I DEFINITELY don't like her hair (apparently she got an award for having the best hairstyle or something). It always looks looks like she's been dragged through a bush backwards. Anyways...She was seen wearing the Chanel clogs at the S/S fashion show and on the Vogue cover and baboom....its the new "It" shoe. I think this is just a one-season trend that won't last long. And how uncomfortable do they look?? They belong in the same category as Crocs and Birkenstock because they all have something similar about them (and I don't care how comfortable they are, they are u.g.l.y.)

Couture for Cats?????

I just found out that Jean Paul Gaultier is planning to launch a couture line for cats!!! Apparently he's disappointed in the way that people are taking fashion for granted so he decided to slightly change his clientele. He had apparently already tried dressing his cat in a corset which was not very successful. I can tell you, as a person who had cats my whole life, that it won't work!!! Maybe some dogs would put up with it, but cats will let u know EXACTLY what they think. My only successful attempt of dressing up my cat was putting a Santa hat on her head and she clearly didn't like it. So, I think it's better to just stick to humans for now, Mr. Gaultier.

The Grammies

Ok, I know that this blog is starting to resemble a Lady Gaga fan site, but it's just that I love her so much and I think she IS fashion. She is a true visionary and at first everyone slagged her off but now every designer wants to dress her. So Mr. Armani had the honour of dressing her for the Grammies and here are the images. The outfits are by Armani Prive' and the hat is by Philip Treacy. And by the way, she's not a man! Check out her performance with Elton John on Youtube too. Enjoy the beautiful clothes.

MAC goes GaGa

This is a photo from the MAC Viva Glam spring 2010 campaign featuring Lady Gaga and Cindy Lauper (American songwriter/actress, yes I've never heard of her either). I'm so excited to find out that Lady Gaga will be the face of a new Viva Glam Gaga lipstick and all the proceeds will go to the MAC Aids Fund. Weirdly, she doesn't look like her usual self, I actually didn't recognise her at first. It's nice to know that sometimes celebrities do something purely for charity and not to raise their public profile. I assume the colour of the lipstick will be the one she is wearing on the photo, a purpley-pink. It's supposed to go on sale on the 18th of March in America so probably that's the date in the UK as well. And the best thing is, it's all in the name of charity so you won't feel guilty buying it!
