Christian Louboutin campaign proves that shoes ARE a work of art

Besides the typical uniform look book for the coming season, Christian Louboutin has once again pushed the boundaries of advertising though the use of clever product placement.  With the help of Peter Lippmann (who was the creator behind the summer 2009 look book), the campaign sees the models dressed up as protagonists from iconic paintings by artists like De La Tour and Nattier, with one little details that differentiates it from the original: a little red-soled treasure.  I have always said that fashion, and shoes in particular, is just another form of art so it's nice to see that there are visionaries out there who share my view!

Royal Wedding : the highlights

 The Royal Wedding photos, reviews etc are everywhere, I know.  But just because I feel that I need to be part of history and contribute my humble opinion to the blogosphere, I'm posting the things that have been the most memorable for me. 

Kate's Dresses - elegant, classy and safe.  The wedding dress was beautiful, no doubt, but am I the only person who feels that there was something missing? I assure you that my perception of aesthetics goes beyond My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding meringue dresses, but I do feel that Kate's number needed to have some more body to it. Perhaps a longer train or veil? A few UV light butterflies perhaps? (Joke, honestly).  The dress that she wore for the reception was super elegant and the crystal detailing emphasized her waist but what's with the cardigan? Get rid of it!

 The Two [stepsisters] Princesses - some time in the future, these two poor girls will look back on the family photo album and want to murder the person who suggested that these ensembles were a good idea.  And why didn't Beatrice think about the people who would be sitting behind her? How annoying.  However, I give her Valentino outfit some credit UNLIKE that hideous Westwood monstrosity with a dead bird on the head. Sack the stylist!

 

The Queen - bless her royal midi heels!  Loved the lemon yellow outfit, right on trend Your Highness! Color blocking at its best!  

The Beckhams - I give my award for being the best dressed guest to David Beckham NOT Victoria.  He wore a Ralph Lauren suit with crocodile braces and proudly wore his OBE. Do I smell a trend for male brooches?  Victoria disappointed me with the hat because I felt the urgent need to stick it further up on her head. As for the shoes, boring. The Louboutins are way too high and I'm surprised that she didn't go for something more interesting.

 

Street Parties - I personally attended a street party in East London.  I have never seen so many people drunk before 4pm.  It was loud, rowdy, drunken and dirty.  Apparently 140 tonnes of rubbish were dumped as a result of the wedding and trust me, that's quite believable.  A lot of people were in fancy dress, with loads of girls wearing veils or even full-on wedding dresses!

I couldn't resist taking a video of a completely drunk couple dancing on the street! You should have seen the moves this pair was busting! A weird remix of salsa, gangsta hand gestures and head-banging! Legendary.

Louboutin jacket for Swizz Beatz

A few days ago, Swizz Beatz a.k.a. Mr Alicia Keys, tweeted a photo of a leopard-print biker jacket created by none other but Christian Louboutin himself.  The jacket comes complete with golden studs and signature red lining.  Swizz Beatz seems to be more obsessed with Louboutin than the average woman, me thinks... Your thoughts?

1. Slingbacks - perfect for summer

2. Nude colour - looks sexy with a tan

3. Studded - makes a statement and may prove to be handy when kicking (joke)

4. Platform - makes them much more bearable to walk in

In the mood for summer!!!

The weather is depressing which is really good because I have loads of things to do for university and have no temptation to go outside.  I can't wait until the sun comes out so I have more motivation to wear colorful things.  These are a few of my favorite pieces from the spring/summer collection.  These studded flats have a red sole, just like all the heels and would add a nice edge to any girly outfit. Maxi dresses are BIG this season and this Kenzo one is one of my favorites.  The only problem would be the transparency in the chest area ha! The colors of the Versace bag summarise everything that summer represents: bright, fun and sexy.  For laid-back chic, these high-waisted beige shorts are the perfect thing, especially if you wear it with a loose white top, a plain leather belt and heels.  And finally, the white broderie Anglaise dress is an everyday staple, plus it would emphasize the tan (although I'll try to stay away from it this summer).

Mr Loubi's F/W 2010 Campaign

Christian Louboutin's F/W 2010 Campaing shot by Khuong Nguyen inspired by...guess what? Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll.  The fairy-like settings make the shoes the focal point and takes their "fetishisation" to the maximum.  The photographs are absolutely beautiful, I don't remember any other shoe designer doing an ad campaign like this.  Even Louboutin himself is easily recognizable which kind of shifts the role of the designer to a celebrity.  I mean do you know what Manolo Blahnik or Giuseppe Zanotti look like? Nope, didn't think so.  But if you are a Louboutin fan, then you most probably know what HE looks like.   The coyote fur boots are my favorite!
