Mary Katrantzou for Topshop

I became fascinated with Katrantzou's work during my internship at Harvey Nichols and after seeing her latest collection I can officially say that she's currently one of my favorite designers.  This talented designer is originally Greek and has completed her BA and MA from Central Saint Martins (surprised?).  Her surreal prints are a perfect marriage of true craftsmanship and technology.  The colorful designs have such a mesmerizing effect on me that I have found myself staring at specific pieces for what feel like a very very long time.  Not to mention that the cut is super flattering and almost architectural in it's strongly defined volumes.  As with anything that's as exquisite, Katrantzou's designs come with an impressive price tag.  Luckily though, she has designed a capsule collection for Topshop with the most expensive piece retailing at 120 pounds which is not bad considering that it's 100% silk and offers her signature aesthetic.  I have not personally tried the designs on, so can't really tell you about how they fit, but will make sure I go and check them out in the coming days. Expect my review of the Winter 2011 collection at the LFW in the next couple of days.

NYFW: Favorite details

So once again, another NYFW has passed us by.  I decided to dedicate this post to a little taster of what my favorite accessories for the next season are.  Obviously, this is just a fraction of all the fabulous things that our neighbors on the other side of the pond have in store for us (no pun intended) for winter 2011.  The trend for fur is still going strong with Oscar de la Renta and Alexander Wang using the luxury material for Russian-style Cossack hats and glasses which was inspiring.  I generally loved Wang's mix of texture and materials so if you haven't already seen the show, then I strongly recommend that you do.  There were some beautiful arm-candy on display at Reed Krakoff with buckled messenger style bags that came in several colors and textures as well as some eye-popping color at Proenza Schouler which proves that the trend for color blocking a la Yves Saint Laurent circa the 90s will smoothly shift into next season.  Loads of strappy and minimal shoes have also been spotted which I think is long overdue since the typical platform heel, which I refer to as "the hooker shoe".  I've also included an image of the nude half-moon manicures seen at 3.1 Philip Lim even though the beauty trends are a whole other post in itself. Images lifted from style.com.

NYFW Highlights: Anna Sui hats

Oh yes, it is what you think it is! After the hype of animal-themed beanies that dominated the streets of London this winter, I was pretty and pleasantly surprised to see Anna Sui's cat hats!  I have recently read that this whole craze of wearing animal suits originated from Japan, Harajuku I assume, where dressing up from head to toe as a specific animal was dubbed stylish.  As a result, this trend started to shift its way towards London, hence all those bear hats you might have been seeing during the winter season.  Going along with the animal trend, I also love the leopard-print stole from the collection.  Have you noticed that everything feline never seems to go out of fashion? The examples are clear: leopard-print, cat eye make up etc.  Loads more NYFW coming up in the next few days, darlings. What were your favorite moments?

Eye Candy of the Day

MAC Peacocky ad campaign that's gracing all MAC store windows right now in London. I love all the exotic shades of green and turquoise in make up as well as clothes.
